Tsunami
Like members of the Church of God around the world the hearts of our members go out to the families of the victims of this recent event. Our prayers and physical support will be with them over the coming months.
Since
the catastrophic tsunami brought about the tragic deaths of thousands
in so many countries, we have seen letters appear in many newspapers
banishing God to hell for a crime against humanity, if He did foresee
or instigate this event, or if He did not, condemning Him for His lack
of omnipotence in failing to prevent it.
We have seen clerics state it was intended as a dire warning to a sinful world from God, while other equally sincere clerics see His presence only in the generous response of a sympathetic public.
Right: The Tsunami rolls in
Sadly I have read no biblical explanation. The Bible states that God gave our parents a choice back at Creation. They could choose to keep God's commands or reject them. We all know what happened. Ever since then, for almost six thousand years men have rejected the way of life based upon God's law and chosen instead our own way, replacing His government with our governments, His laws with our laws, many in direct opposition to His commands. Wars, violence, perversions, world-wide epidemics, famines and disease have been the result.
God set aside six thousand years for men to learn the hard way. That time is almost up, but until He does intervene, He gave this world over to what the bible calls "the god of this world" - Satan the devil, who hates humans for their potential and uses every means possible to destroy them.
God still has a hands-off policy, only intervening for those who will look to Him, His word and Jesus Christ's teaching and example, and walk in His way.
When He does begin to bring about the close of this age, which will culminate with Jesus Christ's return, you will most certainly know it, because the events of the last seven years will shake this world on its axis. Take time out to read of them in the last book of the Bible - the book of Revelation.
Yes, this world is due for punishment for its wrong choices and, when the time comes, it will make this tsunami seem like ripples in a pond, but beyond those events lie the beginning of the Kingdom of God here on this beautiful planet, when for the seventh one thousand year period, Jesus Christ will re-establish His Government, re-institute His laws, and bring about the kind of happiness and peace only today found in the lives of those who enjoy the fruits of walking in the footsteps of our Saviour, who, the Bible tells us, is the only way to Salvation.
Finally, all men who have ever lived, including those who have lost their lives in this tsunami, will be resurrected to physical life, this time to have their chance to learn the way that results in all that mankind has ever longed for.
